Job Description
Position Overview

The Food Safety Manager role is to ensure that our Food Safety strategy is best in class, managing safety and compliance across all restaurants. The manager will develop strategic relationships and influence key stakeholders at all levels, leading a range of projects and workstreams to keep food safety at the forefront of everyone's thinking.

Responsibilities
  • Own the Food Safety strategy for the business, reviewing legislation and best practice guidance to ensure all policies and processes align.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety at all restaurants, including:
    • Regularly review and update the FSMS and HACCP as required.
    • Lead the HACCP Team.
    • Review operational systems and processes to ensure fit for purpose.
    • Own and manage the pest control process and contract with Equity Pest Control.
    • Collaborate with Regional Safety Managers on food safety matters.
  • Ensure all team members receive appropriate and engaging food safety training:
    • Develop training for every level of the business.
    • Review training content regularly to keep it relevant.
    • Support the in house training team in monitoring compliance with training completion.
  • Support daily results and compliance through:
    • Food safety content of the third party audit programme (ROCC).
    • Periodic review of results, trends and data insights.
    • Maintain policies, processes and risk assessments on the internal system.
  • Collaborate with Operations and QA teams on:
    • Restaurant routines such as temperature checks, cleaning schedules and pest walks.
    • New product or packaging launches, product safety and validations.
    • Innovation of new equipment or process trials to keep food safety at the forefront.
  • Engage with external regulators to maintain high food hygiene ratings, including:
    • Lead the process with external Enforcement Liaison partners to return restaurants to 4 or 5 ratings.
    • Work with Primary Authority Partners on requests and referrals.
    • Provide regular internal reporting and data insights.
    • Support enforcement or customer contacts relating to food safety.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement with franchise partners and support the Equity Team on food safety matters.
  • Represent the UK&I on food safety forums with the wider international team.
About You
  • Passionate, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about food safety and building a safety culture.
  • Solution driven and equally focused on recovery and resolution as on risk identification.
  • Strong ability to influence senior leaders internally and externally.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time across multiple workstreams and projects by deadlines.
  • Analytical thinker who understands root cause analysis and applies actions for continuous improvement.
  • Skilled in developing and sustaining relationships.
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently when required.
  • Motivated to learn and develop professionally.
  • Action driven with high attention to detail in project and process management.
Experience
  • A related degree (or equivalent) in Food Science, Food Technology, Environmental Health, or a similar field.
  • Relevant experience in food safety management, including HACCP, policy writing and operational implementation.
  • Experience in the food service, hospitality or food retail sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing contractors such as pest control and audit services.
  • Experience investigating food safety incidents and accidents.
  • Proven track record of managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment.

Location and Travel

Our Restaurant Support Centre is located in Woking, Surrey - a 24 minute train ride from London Waterloo. Depending on the role, travel across the UK & Ireland may be required.
