Applications are invited for a fixed term Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate with dedicated training in Musculoskeletal Imaging to join an expanding team of Consultant Radiologists at a large multi site acute NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

You must be fully registered with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent, at interview stage.

This role will be based at Worthing Hospital but may require rotation across our sites.

The role requires a thorough grounding in clinical radiology including ultrasound and cross sectional skills in addition to subspecialty skills in Musculoskeletal imaging including joint injections.

There is the opportunity to participate in regular multidisciplinary meetings with the Rheumatology and Trauma & Orthopaedic teams.

The successful candidate will have good cross sectional skills in emergency imaging with an expectation to join the general on call rota for the base site. The Radiology departments across University Hospitals Sussex support teaching and the post holder will be expected to support clinical teaching and educational supervision.

Responsibilities
  • General elective and acute (hot) reporting

  • Teaching and training of radiology trainees and participation in the radiology Master's (MSc) program
Time commitment and scheduling

Direct clinical care: around 8.5 patient assessments per week. Supporting professional activities: around 1.5 hours per week for CPD, audit, teaching and research. Sessions include general, acute, and home reporting, with up to two home reporting sessions per week as agreed.

On call arrangements include evenings (hrs) and weekends (8-10 hour coverage). The role may involve overnight on call activity (hrs). Commitments are typically 4th level and carry additional DCC payments.

Person specification Experience / Qualifications
  • FRCR or its recognised equivalent.
  • Full and specialist registration with the GMC or eligibility within six months of the interview. If trained in the UK, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Radiology or within six months of receiving it. If trained outside the UK, proof that qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT.
  • Higher degree (BSc, MSc, MS, etc.) and recognised academic distinctions.
Clinical skills and experience
  • Broad experience of general acute diagnostic imaging (including trauma CT) and general outpatient imaging.
  • Good cross sectional skills in body and emergency imaging.
  • Dedicated musculoskeletal radiology training.
  • Experience of sub specialty MSK reporting including US and MRI.
  • Experience of MSK interventions including image guided injections and fluoroscopy.
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary discussions.
  • Experience of US guided interventional radiology procedures including drain insertion and biopsies.
  • Interest in paediatric radiology.
Knowledge
  • Broad breadth of experience in and outside the specialty.
Organisation and planning
  • Experience and ability to work in multi professional teams.
  • Understanding of NHS clinical governance and resource constraints.
  • Evidence of managerial skills and achievements.
