Job overviewAre you passionate about safety and ready to make a difference in one of the most vital areas of healthcare? We're looking for a dedicated and proactive Fire Safety Officer to join our acute Trust and help ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors alike.
About the Role
Reporting to the Trust Fire Safety Manager, you will play a key role in driving fire safety standards across the organisation. Your work will support directly provided services and commissioned care through robust risk assessments, inspections, awareness campaigns, and training programmes-all aligned with national legislation and Trust policy.
Main duties of the job- Collaborate with the Trust Fire Safety Manager to embed a culture of fire safety across all departments and services.
- Deliver risk assessments and inspections that reduce potential harm to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a Trust-wide Fire Safety Strategy encompassing legal, ethical, and moral obligations.
- Champion and promote compliance with guidance from both the Fire and Safety Executive and the Trust.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal teams, external NHS colleagues, and statutory bodies to promote a cohesive response to fire safety.
- A confident communicator with a solid understanding of NHS fire safety legislation and best practice. You excel in collaborative environments, translating complex fire risks into clear actions. Experience in healthcare settings is an advantage.

Person specification Education/ Qualifications- Professional qualification in discipline related to fire engineering or safety
- Experience of further academic/personal development
- Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers or Institute of Fire Prevention Officers
- Any teaching or training qualification
- Holder of NEBOSH (Gen Cert) or CFPA Diploma in Fire Prevention.
- Member of the National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers
- Experience in fire safety/prevention experience gained in Healthcare preferably NHS
- Thorough detailed knowledge of Fire Safety legislation and management systems & HTM 05 Suite of Documents
- Experience in the development and delivery of training courses
- Experience of undertaking investigations and preparing reports on fire incidents
- Minimum two years' experience in a Fire prevention advisory role, within the NHS
- Experience in developing and delivering training programmes for fire safety training
- Computer literate and Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of Firecode and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, its practical implications and application of Firecode and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, its practical implications and application.
- Practical knowledge and familiar with the interpretation of the Building Regulations.
- Working knowledge of: fire safety, fire risk management and risk techniques, fire legislation, relevant
- statues, codes of practice, British Standards and fire safety training.
- Leading and influencing in challenging circumstances
