Job Description
Finance Risk & Controls Lead

Permanent | Hybrid (2-3 days per week in Edinburgh office)

Large Financial Services Organisation

Are you ready to shape the future of risk management within Finance?

We're looking for a Finance Risk & Controls Lead to play a pivotal role in strengthening the organisation's financial and operational control environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-profile function within a major financial services business, where your expertise will drive real impact, influence senior stakeholders, and help safeguard critical Finance processes.

The Opportunity

In this influential role, you will:

  • Lead the risk and control agenda across end-to-end Finance processes, including financial reporting, expense management, commercial finance and other technical areas.
  • Provide independent oversight, challenge, and guidance to process owners and senior leaders.
  • Assess control effectiveness, identify weaknesses, and design practical, sustainable improvements.
  • Support proactive risk management by aligning control activities to broader Finance and business strategy.
  • Drive a culture of strong governance, robust non-financial risk awareness, and continuous improvement.

You'll work closely with Heads of Finance, senior leadership teams, and cross-functional stakeholders, giving you significant visibility and the opportunity to influence at pace.

What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • A strong understanding of accounting and finance processes, with insight into financial and operational risks - ideally gained within life insurance or financial services.
  • Background in audit, risk, or financial controls, with experience improving control environments across complex processes.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and producing high-quality outputs.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills - confident in influencing, challenging and building trust.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive mindset.
  • A professional qualification in accounting, audit, or risk (or equivalent relevant experience).

If this role is of interest, please apply and I will be in touch.
