Financial Resilience Benefits and Advice Worker

York Carers Centre is an independent charity that helps unpaid carers in York access the support they need. We currently have a rewarding opportunity for a positive committed individual who has genuine interest in using their experience and skills to support carers.

Overview

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Financial Resilience Benefits Advice Worker to maximise carers' income and reduce their spending. The postholder will be required to deliver information, advice and support through telephone calls and outreach appointments including home visits. The role will involve participating in a weekly evening telephone Advice Line for carers on a rota basis.

Qualifications

  • Do you have a working knowledge of Carers Rights and Benefit Entitlements, and health and disability issues?
  • Are you able to advise and support carers with applications for benefits and entitlements, maximising income to families?
  • Do you have the skills to apply for charitable grants and hardship funds to decrease the need for crisis financial intervention?
  • Are you empathetic and compassionate with excellent communication and engagement skills and can you engage sensitively with a wide range of clients?
  • Are you enthusiastic, self motivated, and highly organised and can work on your own initiative and as part of a team?
  • The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Responsibilities
  • Advise and support carers with applications for benefits and entitlements, maximising income to families.
  • Apply for charitable grants and hardship funds to decrease the need for crisis financial intervention.
  • Engage sensitively with a wide range of clients, providing empathetic, compassionate support with excellent communication and engagement skills.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, being self motivated, highly organised, and able to work on your own initiative.
