In the hospitality and tourism sector, finance holds a strategic position. The Financial Director (or Chief Financial Officer - CFO) is the guarantor of their establishment's financial policy. This includes managing cash flow, planning budgets, handling taxation, analyzing performance, and managing risks.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe Financial Director is a key player in hotel management. Their responsibilities revolve around several major areas:
- Cash and Financial Management: This involves tracking liquidity, working capital, and accounting indicators to guide the financial strategy.
- Budget Planning: They define short- and long-term financial objectives and develop budgets.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting: This includes collecting and presenting performance data and communicating results to shareholders and managers.
- Taxation and Regulation: They oversee tax and legal obligations and validate contracts and fiscal choices.
- Financial Risk Management: They identify and mitigate risks related to credit, exchange rates, liquidity, or contracts.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of finance, taxation, management control, and commercial law.
- Mastery of financial information systems, accounting software, and management tools.
- Experience in banking relations, both national and international.
- A solid understanding of economics and financial markets.
- Fluent in written and spoken English, which is essential in the international sector.

A Bac +5 (Master's level) degree is recommended, with a specialization in finance, economics, accounting, or auditing. An MBA in International Hospitality is particularly well-suited for developing financial expertise applied specifically to the hotel and tourism sector. Significant experience in finance and/or hospitality is a major asset.
Working Conditions- This is a position with significant strategic responsibility.
- Frequent travel is common, especially for CFOs of international hotel groups.
- Work hours are often long due to financial deadlines.
Compensation depends on the company's size and prestige, the country, and experience:
- Entry-level: Starting from €4,000 gross per month.
- Confirmed professional: Around €60,000 gross per year (the median salary in France).
- Senior Financial Director: Up to €15,000 gross per month in large international groups.
- Financial Director of a hotel group.
- General Manager of a hotel or hotel chain.
- The possibility of moving into strategic roles in other sectors (banking, consulting, multinational corporations).
