The role:


A privately owned publishing company is seeking a Financial Controller to support the business through its next phase of growth.

This role will report directly to the CFO and manage a finance team of four. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, leadership ability, and a drive to improve team and organisational performance. The position is office-based, five days a week, with potential flexibility to work from home on Fridays in the future.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Drive efficiency by improving financial processes and reducing reporting timelines.
  • Analyse financial and other KPIs against budget and previous performance at both group and departmental levels.
  • Support post-merger integration efforts, including the preparation of consolidated management and statutory accounts.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process.
  • Liaise with external auditors and manage the audit process.
  • Oversee payroll and assist with pension scheme consolidation.
  • Promote a culture of control and continuous improvement in financial operations.
  • Lead the transition to a single, consolidated finance system by year-end.
  • Collaborate with other departments to assess and support commercial projects and initiatives.
  • Identify financial and commercial risks and opportunities.


Required Skills and Experience:


  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA).
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Head of Finance.
  • Familiarity with foreign subsidiaries, group consolidations, and transfer pricing.
  • Experience in subscription-based businesses is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Commercial acumen and experience partnering with non-financial teams.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of statutory, tax, and compliance obligations.
