Job Description

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Financial Accounts Officer, Band 5

Closing date is 01 February 2026

To provide support in the provision of an efficient and effective financial accounting service.

Key responsibilities to include daily and long-term cash flow monitoring, and agreement of NHS Debtor, Creditor, Income and Expenditure balances with other NHS organisations.

To reconcile a range of control accounts.

The proposed interview date is 12th February.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Treasury Management

Input to the Trust's daily cash flow spreadsheet model, and maintain a rolling three-month cash flow forecast. Produce forward look forecasts of future cash flows for Income and Expenditure.

Highlight opportunities for investment of cash surpluses.

Reconcile actual cash flow from Trust bank accounts to forecast and investigate variances or anomalies.

Accounts Payable

Produce reports which monitor the number of outstanding invoices and provide support to the wider finance team and budget holders in reducing the number of outstanding invoices.

Final Accounts

Lead on the process for collating and recording NHS Debtors, Creditor and expenditure information.

Perform monthly payroll reconciliations and build an annual working paper for audit to support the value recorded in the annual accounts.

Complete monthly reconciliations of a range of control accounts and take action to rectify outstanding issues.

Losses and Compensations

Act as the day to day point of contact for all losses and compensation claims lodged with the Trust.

Record and process claims made and gather information to aid the resolution of outstanding claims.

Act as departmental link with patients & relatives over losses & compensation claims.

Handle sensitivity issues and distressed members of the public with professionalism and care and resolve issues in accordance with Trust policies.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • Full AAT or degree in Accountancy/Finance and Business or equivalent experience
  • Studying towards a full Consultancy Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) accountancy qualification would be desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on multiple complex tasks, working to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent IT skills, including experience in all Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of financial processes and Finance Systems.
  • Analysis and interpretation of large volumes of data
  • Have good numeracy skills. Be able to analyse and draw conclusions from large volumes of data
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Have a working knowledge of the key elements of the NHS Finance regime, ideally with experience in an NHS organisation.
Experience
  • Experience of working in a large complex organisation.
  • Experience of working with non financial senior managers.
