Severn Trent Green Power (STGP), a subsidiary of Severn Trent plc, operates the UK's largest food waste recycling network, with 11 anaerobic digestion sites, 5 composting facilities, and a growing portfolio of solar, wind, and hydro assets.
Processing waste from over 50 local authorities and major food businesses, STGP generates 279GWh of renewable energy annually.
We're also embarking on an exciting strategic project, where you'll lead the delivery of a major solar energy investment - increasing our generation capacity from 300GWh to 500GWh
Following 30% growth through optimisation and acquisition, the business is entering a new phase focused on innovation, strategic partnerships, and continued leadership in organic waste recycling and green energy generation

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join STGP as their Finance Director
As the sole Finance representative on the Severn Trent Green Power Executive Team, you'll lead the financial strategy, driving performance and delivering robust profit and growth plans aligned with both STGP and Severn Trent's long-term goals.
You'll provide commercial insight, challenge key decisions, and shape investment cases, while ensuring strong financial control and governance.
Supported by a team of around 14, you'll oversee all core finance functions and foster a culture of outperformance.
This role requires strong commercial acumen, strategic influence, and the ability to balance business needs with wider group priorities
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
- Partner with the Managing Director and STGP Executive Team to shape strategy through financial insight and challenge.
- Lead the creation and delivery of financial growth plans aligned with ST Group strategy.
- Provide commercial and financial insight to support key decisions and manage risks/opportunities.
- Drive strategic planning, including M&A and divestment proposals.
- Deliver accurate budgets and forecasts, challenging assumptions and driving efficiencies.
- Monitor performance against targets, providing timely analysis and early warning indicators.
- Guide executive discussions on cost base and broader financial strategy.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and support business development.
- Ensure compliance with financial standards and alignment with Severn Trent values, reporting into Group Finance

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
To succeed in this role, you'll bring senior-level finance experience in a fast-paced, commercial environment, ideally from an energy background.
You'll have a strong track record in driving financial performance, influencing senior stakeholders, and delivering strategic insight
Excellent communication, commercial acumen, and the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams are essential.
You'll be confident navigating complex decisions, balancing competing priorities, and building strong relationships across the business.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and ambitious individual ready to step into their first Finance Director role, or for someone from a SME background looking to make a meaningful impact in a new and dynamic industry
A recognised accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA) and a full UK driving licence are required
