Job Description

The Role

The successful candidate will take ownership and strategic management of the finance function while ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the office. This is a varied and hands-on role that requires strong accounting experience, excellent organisational skills, and a proactive approach.

You will be highly proficient in Xero, experienced with other accounting packages, and possess expert-level Microsoft Excel skills. Experience within property development, construction, legal, or professional services environments would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Accounts

  • Manage all day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities.
  • Maintain purchase and sales ledgers.
  • Process supplier invoices, payments, expenses, and receipts.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
  • Prepare and maintain short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts, ensuring the business has clear visibility of funding requirements and expenditure commitments.
  • Prepare VAT returns and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end accounting procedures.
  • Produce management accounts, financial reports, budgets, business performance information and analysis for the Directors.
  • Monitor debtors and creditors and ensure timely payments.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, suppliers, and professional advisers.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and accounting systems.

Office Management & Administration

  • Oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the office.
  • Support Directors with reporting, manage filing and business administration.
  • Coordinate meetings, appointments, and company correspondence.
  • Maintain databases, office systems, and administrative procedures.
  • Assist with contract administration and development-related documentation.
  • Manage office suppliers and facilities.
  • Ensure efficient and professional office operations at all times.

About Us

We are a growing new homes property developer with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality residential developments across Sussex. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking an experienced and highly organised Finance and Office Manager to join our team.

This is a key role within the business, combining responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the company with oversight of office operations and administration. Working closely with the Directors, you will play an important part in supporting the continued growth and success of the business.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Accounts Manager, Company Accountant, or similar role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero.
  • Experience using other accounting software packages, including Sage, QuickBooks, or similar.
  • Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills, including:
  • Pivot Tables
  • XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP
  • Advanced formulas and reporting
  • Data analysis and reconciliation
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Excellent bookkeeping and accounting knowledge.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within the property development, construction, or housebuilding sector.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
  • AAT qualification or equivalent accounting qualification.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
  • Previous experience working within a legal, conveyancing, or professional services environment.
  • An understanding of the legal and conveyancing process involved in new homes sales, including reservation, exchange, completion, and liaison with solicitors and purchasers, would be advantageous but is not essential.

Important Information

This is a full-time office-based position in Worthing, West Sussex. Due to the nature of the role and the requirement to work closely with the Directors and wider team, hybrid working and working from home are not available.
