Field Solutions Engineer, Spacetime Integrations
Posted 15 days 13 hours ago by Aalyria Technologies, Inc.
Aalyria is a leading technology company that supplies laser communications technology and temporospatial software-defined networking platforms to the aerospace industry. With technology acquired from Google, Aalyria is at the forefront of innovation in satellite and airborne mesh networks, as well as cislunar and deep-space communications. We are revolutionizing the orchestration and management of planetary mesh networks using any radio or optical spectrum, any orbit, and any hardware across land, sea, air, and space.
Role Overview:Aalyria's Spacetime platform orchestrates highly dynamic aerospace networks, computing and enforcing connectivity across steerable RF/optical links, satellites, ground systems, and mission networks. We're looking for a Solutions Engineer with a strong "Field Engineer" mindset: someone who can drive customer onboarding end-to-end, build custom integrations/adapters, and also show up on-site to bring systems to life in labs, test ranges, and operational environments.
This role blends customer-facing engineering, systems integration, and hands-on software development. You'll partner closely with Product and Core Engineering while working directly with customer and partner engineers and operators.
This is a hybrid role with 25% travel on average, with bursts up to 50% during customer onboarding, integration, field tests, and deployment milestones.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead technical onboarding for new customers: discovery, environment mapping, integration plans, and "day-1" working connectivity.
- Design and implement custom integrations/adapters that connect customer and partner hardware/software to Spacetime (e.g., terminals/modems/radios, gateways, mission systems, OSS/BSS, telemetry/monitoring).
- Own end-to-end proofs-of-integration and field demos: lab bring-up, on-site troubleshooting, performance validation, and operator-ready runbooks.
- Debug complex issues across software, networks, and hardware interfacesoften in constrained, real-world environments where logs are imperfect and time matters.
- Partner with Core Engineering to productize repeatable integration patterns into reusable frameworks, SDKs, schemas, and deployment templates.
- Create crisp technical artifacts: integration specs, gRPC/protobuf APIs, deployment guides, and reference architectures.
- Provide technical leadership during early operations: serve as an escalation point, coordinate incident response during critical milestones, and close the loop with engineering fixes.
- Success in this role will look like the following:
- Customers go from "signed" to "integrated + validated" quickly, with clear plans, tight feedback loops, and high-confidence deliveries.
- Integrations are robust and reusable, reducing bespoke work over time by upstreaming patterns and tooling into the Spacetime platform.
- Field deployments run smoothly because technical risk is surfaced early, on-site execution is disciplined, and learnings translate into lasting improvements.
- U.S. person and eligible to obtain a U.S. SECRET security clearance (or higher).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years in customer-facing technical roles (Solutions Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering, Field Engineering, Technical Integration Engineering, Systems Engineering, or similar).
- Strong software development experience in one or more languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java, C++) and a track record shipping production-quality integration code (tests, reliability, documentation).
- Experience integrating distributed systems via APIs and protocols (REST/gRPC, messaging, authn/authz), plus comfort debugging across network boundaries.
- Hands on ability in Linux environments and modern deployment patterns (containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD).
- Active U.S. SECRET clearance (or higher).
- Experience with networking / infrastructure platforms (routing/switching concepts, SDN/traffic engineering, network telemetry/observability).
- Experience integrating telecom, satellite, aerospace, or defense systems (terminals/modems, gateways, NMS/OSS/BSS, mission networks).
- Experience with system bring up practices: lab/test equipment, scripted provisioning, configuration management, and acceptance testing.
- Strong written communication skills for producing customer ready ICDs, runbooks, and deployment documentation.
- Innovative Environment: Work at a cutting edge company shaping the future of aerospace communications.
- Impactful Work: Directly contribute to critical national security programs and initiatives.
- Growth Opportunities: Expand your career with opportunities for professional development and advancement.
- Inclusive Culture: Be part of a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive workplace where your contributions matter.
- Flexibility: Flexible working arrangements including hybrid remote/in office schedules.
- Compensation and Equity: Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits (401(k), dental, vision, health, life insurance), paid time off, and equity options.
