Experienced General Practice Nurse

The Practice Nurse will be able to assess the nursing needs of patients. They will be expected to provide appropriate care/treatment in conjunction with the GP, or independently, as appropriate and according to Practice policy, protocol, etc. The Practice Nurse will advise patients in general health care and minor ailments with referral to General Practitioners when necessary.
Clinically, the focus of the role is the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients with acute and chronic conditions and management and preventative nursing interventions to all patients.
You will work collaboratively with the whole general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery and procedures. This role is PCN based and you may be required to work at one of our PCN sites.
This role is suitable for part-time or full-time candidates, and Saturday clinics will be included on a rota basis.
It is important that all members of staff are prepared to undertake additional duties or relinquish existing duties to maintain the efficient running of the Practice. Requests from the Partners/Practice Manager to redistribute duties and functions for such changes shall not be reasonably refused.
Main duties of the job- Taking cervical smears after appropriate training has been completed
- Dressing and wound management
- Suture and clip removal
- Management of skin disorders
- Recognition of mild childhood illnesses
- Venepuncture
- Peak flow/spirometry measurement, teaching relaxation techniques
- Testing pathology samples e.g. blood, urine
- Blood pressure and weight management
- Specimen collection e.g. mssu, pregnancy tests, occult blood, faeces for O&S, sputum, etc.
- The Nurse will be responsible for putting labels on samples, form filling, and ensuring timely preparation of specimens for laboratory collection
- General observations e.g. BP, pulse, and temperature
- ECGs
- Support the Treatment Room Team to ensure the maintenance of stock levels relating to patient care
Vaccinations & Injections
1. The Nurse will administer childhood immunisations in conjunction with the GP as per the child immunisation programme
2. Travel vaccination schedules and travel advice
3. Flu vaccination clinics/any other vaccination clinics as deemed appropriate
4. Any other routine injection
Health Promotion, Chronic Disease Management, Primary & Secondary Prevention
1. Identify and target patients for chronic disease clinics as per nGMS contract requirements
2. Organise and facilitate Nurse-Led Chronic Disease Management Clinics i.e., Well-Person, Well-Woman, Asthma & COPD, Heart Disease prevention, Epilepsy, Smoking Cessation, alcohol advice, weight/diet control
