Evening Caretaker in Bantry

We are currently recruiting a reliable and proactive Evening Caretaker to support school sites across West Cork, primarily based in Bantry. This is a key onsite role during evening hours, ensuring the safety, security and smooth running of school facilities, particularly during sports events and activities.

This role is ideal for a responsible, flexible individual with good practical/DIY skills who enjoys working independently and being a trusted presence onsite.

What you'll do
  • Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (typically 6:30pm-8:30pm on weekdays)

  • Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments (including potential 12-hour shifts on Saturdays or Sundays)

  • Act as a Fire Warden (training/certification required)

  • Provide basic First Aid assistance in the event of an emergency

  • Support the safe operation of the building, including training in HVAC systems

  • Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required

  • Ensure the premises remain secure, safe and well maintained

  • Report any incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly

There may also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts across other West Cork schools (particularly if you have access to a car) and potentially in university settings in Cork City.

What you'll bring
  • A strong sense of responsibility and reliability

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during school term time

  • Practical DIY or maintenance skills

  • Ability to work independently and respond calmly in emergencies

  • Good communication skills

  • Previous experience as a caretaker, handy person, facilities assistant or fire warden (desirable but not essential)

  • Fire Warden and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training)
