A little more about your role

As an Environmental Engineer, you will support the MetroLink Directorate team in managing environmental performance across the design and construction of a major rail infrastructure programme in Dublin.

You'll play a key role in ensuring environmental commitments set out in the Railway Order and Sustainability Plan are met, providing technical oversight and assurance across a defined section of civil works. Acting as a key point of contact, you will work closely with contractors and multidisciplinary teams to embed best practice environmental management throughout delivery.

Environmental Compliance & Assurance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental commitments set out in the Railway Order and project requirements
  • Review contractor environmental plans and design submissions for alignment with project standards
  • Support the development of environmental solutions during the design phase
  • Maintain strong understanding of Irish and international environmental legislation
Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Act as the key environmental contact for a section of works
  • Work collaboratively with contractors, design teams and wider project stakeholders
  • Support engagement with third parties alongside stakeholder leads
  • Escalate key issues to the Environmental Engineering Lead where required
  • Review environmental monitoring data and mitigation strategies
  • Identify environmental risks and support the development of mitigation actions
  • Contribute to project reporting, planning and control processes
Qualifications
  • Degree in environmental science, engineering, geoscience or a related discipline
  • Significant experience in environmental management on large infrastructure or rail projects
  • Strong understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment and Irish planning legislation
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and complex project environments
  • Ability to manage environmental risks and ensure quality assurance across project delivery
  • Experience working on major rail or underground infrastructure programmes
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA, ISEP, CIWEM, CIWM, IEI)
  • Experience with project controls, reporting and contractor oversight
  • Knowledge of environmental specifications and standards (BS, EN, IS)
  • Environmental and technical expertise
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Risk identification and mitigation
  • Collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
  • Problem solving and decision-making
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
