Pay rate: Up to £340 PAYE per day, £462 Umbrella per day
Location: London or Ipswich Office
Hours of work: 5 days per week, hybrid working available
The Environmental Arrangements Engineer will support the development, implementation and continual improvement of the project's Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 standards and environmental legislation across a major nuclear construction programme. Working closely with internal teams, contractors and regulators, you'll help develop environmental arrangements and management plans, support audits, inspections and incident management, and ensure environmental requirements are embedded throughout design, procurement and construction activities. This is a varied role offering the opportunity to influence environmental performance, drive continuous improvement and contribute to the successful delivery of one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
- Experience working within an Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned to ISO 14001 standards.
- Knowledge of environmental permits, licences, consents and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience developing and implementing environmental procedures, arrangements and management plans.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Experience supporting environmental audits, inspections, incident management and compliance reporting.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to manage tasks through to completion.
- Experience working on large infrastructure, engineering or construction projects is desirable.
- Experience liaising with environmental regulators and external stakeholders is advantageous.
- Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Assist in maintaining ISO 14001 accreditation, including preparation for and participation in surveillance audits.
- Develop and implement environmental arrangements, procedures and management plans to support compliance.
- Support environmental inspections, audits, investigations and performance reporting across project activities.
- Ensure environmental and sustainability requirements are considered within design, procurement and construction activities.
- Work closely with internal teams, contractors, site delivery teams and external stakeholders.
- Provide support across a range of environmental topic areas and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with incident reporting, design changes and procurement activities to ensure environmental compliance.
- Support engagement with regulators, including the Environment Agency, where required.
- Help ensure construction activities align with environmental policies, objectives and regulatory requirements.
