The position coincides with the development of a Food Grade Packaging Paper that is impervious to oxygen, aromas, oils and greases the aim of replacing plastic material in food packaging. This is not only because of its inherent barrier properties, but also due to it's recyclable, marine biodegradable, and compostable characteristics. They are therefore looking to appoint a Food Contact Material (FCM) compliance expert.

This is the chance to join a company entering a very exciting period within its development of Packaging Paper. Technical and quality expertise are key to the successful development of its product for the future environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives to Plastic Packaging.

Job Role: Reporting to the Technical and Innovation Manager.

In this new role you will provide Environmental expertise compliant with the ISO 14001 standard across all areas of the Mill and communicate as required with respective external agencies. You will be expected to develop and enhance current systems and procedures ensuring all aspects of Environmental management are achieved to the required standards. The role of Environmental & Food Contact Compliance Lead will also be to deliver continuous improvement in achievement of Environmental standards with a focus on sustainability and providing analysis of the product Life cycle.

A key part of your role will be to provide specialist knowledge and expertise to the Technical, Production and Supply Chain / Commercial teams:

In delivery of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in relation to our clients products to Food Industry required standards.

You will be required to develop GMP procedures and standards from first principles, but experience in GMP systems is not a prerequisite requirement.

As the Food Contact Material (FCM) compliance expert for our client's products, unless already experienced in FCM compliance, you will be required to rapidly develop your knowledge of worldwide FCM legislation to become the Mill & Group FCM Compliance Lead.

You will also become a part of the Mill's Audit team in relation to ISO standards.

Qualifications Required and Experience Required:

• Technical Science Degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years' experience
• Development & maintenance of ISO 14001 standards at SME level, ideally with experience of extending into whole business sustainability systems.
• Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and ideally GMP & FCM compliance legislation.
• Ideally knowledge of operational procedures for implementing & maintaining GMP at SME level.
• Project management capability.
• Good communications and presentation skills.
• Problem solving abilities.
• High degree of computer competence
• Wide knowledge of technical information sources - technology, legislation, patents etc.
• Trained ISO Auditor
• Autonomy - self-starter and able to work alone.
• Teamwork- work as part of team with strong communication skills
• Communication- in writing, presenting and verbally.
• Initiative- be able to demonstrate from experience to date.
• Analytical- ability to analyse and present meaningful data and reports for use by others in making decisions.
• Goal orientated, methodical and well organised.
