Job Title: English Teacher - SEMH School
Location: Gateshead and Surrounding Areas
Start Date: September 2025 (or sooner for the right candidate)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent or Long-Term
Salary: £150 - £190 per day (depending on experience and pay scale - negotiable)
Are you a passionate English Teacher with experience - or a strong interest - in working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs?
Protocol Education is proud to be working with specialist SEMH schools across Gateshead and neighbouring areas, who are looking to appoint a committed and resilient English Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who can deliver engaging, creative and inclusive lessons to students who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings.
Deliver the English curriculum to KS3 and KS4 pupils, often working with small groups or on a 1:1 basis.
Create a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment.
Differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of emotional and academic needs.
Build trusting relationships with students, many of whom may display challenging behaviour linked to trauma or unmet needs.
Work closely with support staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to support student progress and wellbeing.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS) - essential
Experience teaching English at secondary level
Previous experience working in an SEMH or alternative provision setting is highly desirable
Strong behaviour management skills and a trauma-informed approach
Empathy, resilience, and a genuine desire to help young people succeed
Competitive daily pay (£150 - £210, depending on experience)
Weekly pay via PAYE - no umbrella fees
Support from a dedicated SEND consultant with SEMH school expertise

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
