Job Description

English Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Location: Darlington, County DurhamContract: Full-time, Maternity CoverKey Stages: KS3-KS4Start Date: April 2026

About the Role

A well-regarded secondary school in Darlington is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join their successful department on a maternity cover basis from April 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them develop strong literacy skills, critical thinking, and a love for literature.

Role Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons in line with the national curriculum

  • Teach across KS3 and KS4, including both Language and Literature

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and confidence

  • Differentiate lessons to support students of varying abilities

  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing clear and constructive feedback

  • Prepare students for assessments and GCSE examinations

  • Contribute to departmental planning and resource development

  • Support enrichment activities such as reading programmes or extracurricular clubs

Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • Experience teaching English at KS3-KS4

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

  • A genuine passion for teaching and inspiring young people
