Job Title: English Teacher
Location: Parkside House School, Backworth, NE27 0AB
Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm
Salary: £39,000 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent Term Time Only
Start: May 2026

About the Role

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an English Teacher to join our close-knit team at Parkside House School as we continue to grow. This is more than a teaching role - it's a chance to inspire young people, rebuild confidence, and re-engage pupils with education in a supportive and nurturing environment.

We are seeking a creative, reflective, and motivated practitioner who will play a key role within our school community. The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver engaging lessons supported by strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Hold high expectations and a passion for helping every pupil achieve their potential.
  • Bring creativity to curriculum delivery, including opportunities beyond the classroom.
  • Lead English across the school, driving high standards, developing resources, and supporting best practice.

This rewarding role suits someone calm, resilient, and committed to making a meaningful difference. With QTS, you will contribute to an inspiring curriculum while supporting whole-school improvement and pupil wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop English across the school with clear targets and outcomes.
  • Safeguard and promote pupil welfare in line with statutory guidance.
  • Support colleagues with English-related school improvement priorities.
  • Monitor progress and communicate effectively with parents/carers.
  • Adapt teaching to meet individual pupil needs and promote engagement.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Strong knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Understanding of effective teaching strategies and high achievement standards.
  • Awareness of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Commitment to the school's vision and values.

Requirement

  • UK QTS (or equivalent).
  • Relevant English qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Parkside House School is an Independent Special School. Our school aims to provide a high-quality education package to pupils who have difficulties in relating to education or others within a mainstream setting.

The school is registered to accommodate 35 pupils from 10 - 18 years; we specialise in teaching pupils with Emotional, Social and Behavioural needs, and with other associated learning and cognitive difficulties.

The aim of the site is to provide enough support to unlock each pupil's potential so they can live fulfilling and productive lives. We provide young people with as much freedom as possible in a safe and supervised environment.
