Our East Anglia operations sit within our Wales & Short Sea Ports division, 3 ports strategically located in Kings Lynn, Ipswich and Lowestoft. Handling a wide range of products including timber, agribulks, building products and providing a hub for Offshore Wind, the region contributes £360m to the UK economy and impacts 5,300 jobs annually. This activity is enabled by our engineering and asset teams at each port ensuring that the equipment and facilities are primed to assist our colleagues and customers.
We're currently looking to recruit an experienced Engineering Manager with responsibility to managing the mixed discipline maintenance teams across all 3 ports. With direct line management responsibilities for 5 supervisors, you'll manage the budget, be a Health & Safety champion across the region and enforce the ABP group standards for Engineering and Asset Management KPIs. The role can be based at any of the 3-ports but will involve travel to the other locations on a weekly basis. We're currently in the middle of a continuous improvement drive to make our business stronger, so you should have practical experience of taking well performing sites and delivering improvements.

Accountabilitiesof role
- Ensure required standards of engineering maintenance and inspections are safely achieved in the most cost-effective way.
- Provide day to day advice to the port manager, marine managers and operations manager on engineering matters affecting port activities.
- Manage local engineering staff to ensure that effective deployment, pre-planning, safety, training and development requirements are provided for.
- Preparation and management of local engineering maintenance budget in liaison with Port Manager and Finance Business Partner.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, environment and other ABP corporate/statutory requirements; promote a safety culture.
- Liaison with colleagues in the implementation of major capital schemes.
- Ensure that ABP's vision and values are developed and integrated into the maintenance engineering teams.
- Responsible for the ongoing management, development and training of team ensuring the jobholders have sufficient knowledge to be able to operate independently on a day-to-day basis.
- Be responsible for Continuous Improvement for Engineering function across East Anglia.
Skills & Experience
- Experience of maintenance management in a dynamic environment preferably with a heavy engineering bias.
- Demonstrable experience of managing in house or contract staff to deliver maintenance services.
- Experience in the effective management of budgets.
- Good working knowledge and evidence of compliance with Health & Safety and other statutory legislation across a range of disciplines.
- Evidence of working under pressure and to timescale.
- Motivator, good verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent IT skills including experience of computerised maintenance management and MS Office.
- Continuous Improvement experience/qualifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
