This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.The Performance & Analysis team is the centre of excellence for the engineering analysis used to substantiate the performance and safety of the power station. Thermo fluid analysis is a key capability that supports the design, assessment and substantiation of both duty and safety systems, using 1D fluid systems modelling to evaluate performance across normal and faulted operating conditions. About the Role As an Engineer - Thermofluid Analysis, you will develop, apply and deliver thermo fluid models and methods that support the design, analysis and safety justification of RR SMR fluid systems. You will work across engineering teams-including design, performance and safety-to agree analysis requirements, scope 1D modelling activities and deliver high quality technical outputs that substantiate system behaviour and support design decisions.You will build and analyse 1D representations of fluid systems, assessing components, pipework, control strategies and operating scenarios. Your work will contribute to component sizing, system optimisation, performance verification and safety case evidence. In some scenarios, you may also contribute to 2D/3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis within the group.The role includes contributing to the development of analysis methods through Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ), ensuring modelling adequacy and driving continuous improvement in analysis quality. Experienced engineers may also supervise small teams or mentor junior engineers. We'll Need You To: Build and analyse 1D representations of liquid and gaseous fluid systems including system architecture, pipework, components and control philosophy Scope thermo fluid analysis requirements to demonstrate compliance with performance and safety objectives Use fluid analysis methods to size key system components such as pumps, valves, tanks and heat exchangers Apply understanding of fluid mechanics and heat transfer to propose design or control modifications Produce clear analysis reports summarising performance characteristics such as pressure drop, NPSHa, cavitation margin, thermal performance and control behaviour Contribute to higher fidelity CFD studies where needed Apply VVUQ techniques to demonstrate the adequacy and robustness of analysis methods Support the development of automated, quality managed analysis workflows including pre and post processing Work closely with system design engineers and safety case specialists to integrate analysis findings into design decisions and operating philosophies Contribute to team development and, where applicable, provide technical support to junior engineers Key Skills Required: We know there's no such thing as the 'perfect' candidate. If you meet around 75% of the criteria below, we'd love to hear from you: Strong understanding of applied fluid mechanics and heat transfer principles Experience performing 1D fluid systems analysis using tools such as Flomaster, or equivalent analytical/empirical techniques Knowledge of fluid system design principles, including control philosophy, flow balancing, NPSH and system resistance modelling Familiarity with geometry pre /post processing tools such as Navisworks or NX Ability to script or automate analysis processes using MATLAB or Python Experience developing analysis approaches to support system design and safety justification Ability to technically review and check thermo fluid analyses in high assurance environments Skilled in verification, validation and uncertainty quantification of analysis models Track record of delivering analysis tasks to time, cost and quality requirements Effective communication skills, able to present technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams Degree qualified in an engineering discipline and ideally recognised by a relevant professional body (or working towards this)We welcome applicants from a broad range of industries; nuclear experience is beneficial but not essential. Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington Salary and Package: The salary band for this will be between £42,000-£55,150 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring.
