Flexible WorkingDue to the sensitive nature of the work, remote working or home working is not possible as a standard. Other flexible options such as part time (minimum four days per week) and compressed hours are considered.
About UsWe're MI6, the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber attacks. Working in partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government counter these threats through secret intelligence.
The RoleIn a small, specialist team of employment lawyers, you will work on unique and challenging cases supporting vital work at the heart of our organisation. The portfolio includes advising on staff policies, contracts, HR strategy, casework, employment litigation and sensitive matters related to national security.
You will provide employment advice on HR policy, disciplinaries, grievances, litigation, Equality and Diversity, recruitment and employment legislation. You will manage Employment Tribunal litigation, liaising with the ET and counsel to progress cases, and deliver client training.
Line Management responsibilities are not part of this role.
Who You AreQualified solicitor or barrister with sound PQE, qualified to practice in England and Wales. In depth knowledge of employment law with at least two years in practice. Experience in a commercial or public sector in house team is desirable but not essential.
Strong communication skills to explain complex employment law to non legal audiences. Pragmatic problem solving, creative thinking, proactive, conscientious, able to handle complex & sensitive queries independently or within a small team.
Ability to build strong relationships with clients as a trusted adviser and work collaboratively with partners across the National Security Community and wider Government.
