An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated lawyer to join our experienced legal team.

We welcome applications from experienced senior practitioners as well as those working towards legal qualifications.

This is a Career Grade Role offering opportunities for those with experience and qualifications or those still training. The level at which you join will reflect your current skills.

Depending on your experience and qualifications, you will join at grade 9, 10, or 11. You will be supported to progress through the grades with the aim of reaching Grade 11 as a senior lawyer. Details about the experience and qualifications for each grade are attached.

You will primarily advise and support the Council's Human Resources, equalities, and information governance teams. As a lawyer in the litigation team, particularly within the equalities aspect, you will support multiple client teams on issues related to housing and prosecutions.

You will be part of a team providing legal advice on complex employment, information governance, and equality issues, reflecting the diversity of roles within the council.

You will also support civil and criminal matters within the wider litigation team.

As part of the legal service, you will play a role in implementing the Council Plan and driving change.

If you are an ambitious solicitor, barrister, or CILEX fellow (or working towards such qualifications) with an interest and ideally experience in civil or criminal litigation, employment, or equality law, this role could be your next career step.

This position is suitable for job sharing.

Hybrid working arrangements are available. Working arrangements will be tailored based on role requirements and your needs, in collaboration during recruitment. The contractual location will be the designated council office.

Please note, we do not sponsor visas, as we lack a sponsorship license.

The Council offers a generous annual leave, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, health and wellbeing initiatives, and a comprehensive benefits package. We promote flexible working, community engagement, and continuous learning & development, along with discounts and rewards.
