Employee Relations Advisor| 6 Month Contract | (Inside IR35) | Hybrid, 2/3 days pw Edinburgh or Glasgow| Starting ASAP

Day Rate: £DOE

About the role:

You will have experience of best practice management in relation to a variety of ER case work and people issues. Advising on and enabling resolution through a fair and consistent process in line with policy and wider employment law.

You will be required to remain pragmatic and work in line with Civil Service values and principles, working in close partnership with our Trade Union to ensure all colleagues have an effective voice.

We are looking for someone who is a confident writer and can contribute to reviewing policies and procedures, as well as the development of new policies, ensuring they meet statute and align to our organisational culture within the Civil Service.

You will have robust attention to detail and be diligent and pragmatic in terms of conducting policy reviews and progressing case work management.

Main Duties

  • Research and benchmarking against legislation and best practice (across Scottish Government, other public bodies, and employers across UK).
  • Review of existing policies and drafting of revised versions.
  • Support the ER manager in securing policy feedback from the ER team and trade union.

Development of supporting documentation, including request forms, business case templates and manager guidance.

Support the ER manager through governance and approval processes.

Preparation of policy launch and implementation material

Manage HR cases individually, appropriately, and effectively in line with policy and wider legislation.

Escalation points for People Managers to advise on and support more complex cases.

Work proactively to support leadership and recognised trade union (PCS), as part of our formal partnership arrangements.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven track record of delivering within an employee relations environment, (ER Casework management eg, attendance, disciplinary, grievances and performance).
  • Chartered CIPD membership, or willing to work towards, or another relevant qualification.

Changing & Improving

  • Experience of the design, development, and launch of HR policy, in line with employment law and best practice.
  • Regularly reviews procedures and policies to make suitable
