Job Description

Do you want to contribute to the sustainability of European homes? Are you excited about working with advanced technology in a young, innovative organization? Do you have a technical Bachelor's or Master's degree and want to develop yourself in a rapidly growing company? Then Cooll is looking for you!

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

=

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Cooll, you will work on the embedded control system on our main PCB of the heat pump. You'll be part of the research and development team responsible for the heat pump's behaviour. Your main task will be to develop and manage the embedded base layer written in C code. The functional control of our device is developed in a MATLAB Simulink environment, and prior experience with this is a plus.

Our engineering team works in a project-based manner. Due to the team's size, each member has a broad range of responsibilities. You work with precision and have a strong sense of quality and safety. Since Cooll develops critical submodules for its heat pumps in-house, there are plenty of challenges to help you grow professionally.

WHAT DO YOU BRING?

Cooll mindset

A critical and solution-oriented mindset, with the intention of always going two steps forward and zero steps back! You are a strong team player and have a getting-things-done-with-a-small team mentality; build your own test-tools or finish that software update quickly for a lab test. At the same time you organize your own work and take initiatives to get the best results possible.

Precise working style

A precise and well-documented working style, as your role can significantly impact the safety of our (complex) product and possibly the end consumer!

Competences

You are able to:

  • translate functional requirements to actions;
  • plan your actions over the long term;
  • deliver your actions according to planning. If needed: escalate and propose mitigating actions;
  • coordinate work of an external party or colleague.

Bachelor's or Master's degree

A degree in embedded software, electronics, industrial automation or related field. 2-5 years of experience with embedded C/C++. Experience with MATLAB Simulink and Linux systems are a bonus.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

=

Software architecture

Experience with software architecture development.

Automation tools

Experience with automation tools like Jenkins and GitHub is a plus.

Affinity for heating systems

An affinity for heating systems and/or heat pumps; knowledge of electronics for high-volume consumer products is an advantage.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT COOLL

=

At Cooll, a spin-off from the University of Twente, we are developing an energy-efficient and affordable heating solution for existing and new homes. Our adsorption heat pump is a one-to-one replacement for the traditional high-efficiency gas boiler in existing homes. It can be combined with both high-temperature and low-temperature heating systems, requiring no separate outdoor unit. The heat pump is powered by natural gas (or hydrogen in the future), extracting heat from the outside air to reduce gas consumption by 30-50% and CO2 emissions by 30-50%, all without increasing electricity usage.

This heat pump is a potential successor to the gas boiler for many European homes. The same technology could eventually be powered by biofuels or (sustainably generated) hydrogen, enabling completely CO2-neutral heating through the gas network.

Cooll is based in Hengelo. Since 2009, we've built a team of enthusiastic and goal-oriented professionals from various backgrounds, united by a shared mission to make the built environment more sustainable.

WHAT COOLL HAS TO OFFER

  • Play an active role in one of the largest development in this age: the energy transition;
  • Extensive personal growth opportunities in an innovative and ambitious company;
  • A dynamic work environment due to the relatively small team and international technical partners;
  • An informal, down-to-earth work atmosphere with short lines of communication, where independence and courage are valued;
  • A competitive salary based on your experience and a Stock Appreciation Rights program for employees;
  • Flexibility in working hours;
  • Frequent initiatives (e.g. diners) from your direct controls colleagues;
  • Directly accessible and usable testing facilities.
