Electrical & Electronics Engineer

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.

Package: £30,750 - £37,000 per annum (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

AWE has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Electrical/Electronic Engineer, who is keen to apply and develop their skills and knowledge.

The main purpose of this role is to provide supervised electronic engineering capability to the Warhead Engineering sub-function in support of AWE programmes.

You will be working closely with experienced or senior engineers to learn about the practical use of engineering methods, tools and processes.

You will contribute to the planning and execution of tasks in order to deliver specific agreed objectives on time, demonstrating control and accountability of cost and quality.

You will support the progress of designs through the product lifecycle.

You will be accountable for understanding the hazards and associated risks of any work conducted and, where required, safely use specialised equipment.

Within the role, responsibilities include:

Assessment of new designs for suitability for service use.

Delivery, assessment, and testing of warhead electrical/electronic systems and components.

Test and assessment of components and systems as part of an ongoing surveillance programme.

Specification of trials and surveillance activities.

Engaging with US counterparts on surveillance and test activities.

There may be the opportunity for occasional overseas travel.

Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following:

A degree qualification (or equivalent, e.g. HNC plus vocational training) in electrical/electronic engineering, followed by relevant experience.

Experience in the designing, testing, and fault-finding of electrical/electronic circuits, with the ability to analyse and assess existing designs.

Ability to use schematic capture, simulation and/or PCB layout software packages.

Competence in some engineering applications e.g. 3D CAD, Circuit Design and Simulation, Programming.

Training will be provided, and opportunities to study for further qualifications are available.

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
