Job overview The Estates Team prides itself on delivering an Engineering support service across the Trust in order to maintain patient and staff environments.

Key Working Relationships

Develop and maintain good working relationships with clinicians, departmental heads, Risk Management, statutory regulators, Fire Brigade, external consultants, contractors and company representatives

Main duties of the job
  • To maintain and repair a wide range of electrical and mechanical plant & equipment.
  • Undertake an Electrical Authorised Person role as required (Electrical bias Technicians)
  • Undertake the role of a medical gas competent person carrying out maintenance, repairs and duties related to medical gas pipeline systems.
  • To be included on the On-Call Rota, to meet emergency and urgent situations out of hours. To be prepared to respond to emergency work outside normal working hour.
  • Make calls to approved Contractors for breakdowns out of hours as necessary when on-call.
  • Deal with major incidents such as loss of electrical services to critical areas, loss of medical gas to critical areas, loss of heating and hot water services to critical areas
  • Assist to motivate, train and develop the maintenance team and apprenticeship scheme, ensuring the effective use of labour and materials to provide an efficient maintenance service for the Trust's building assets and to support Trust Managers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds.   • Lifts - rescue trapped persons
  • Survey & quote for minor electrical installations and alterations
  • Carry out minor electrical installations and alterations
  • Environmental Computer controlled systems
  • Air Handling Units
  • Nurse Call Systems
  • Heating & Ventilation
  • Isolated Power systems
  • Central Battery system
  • UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) systems
  • Fire Alarm testing and attendance to fire alarms when on call
  • Calorifiers and Hot Water systems
  • Heating & Ventilation Controls
  • Steam Plant
  • MTHW (Medium Temperature Hot Water) Plant
  • LTHW (Low Temperature Hot Water) Plant
  • Plumbing (including all parts of domestic hot and cold water systems)
  • Pneumatic Tube system
  • Medical Equipment
  • Medical Gas plant & Equipment
  • Other Mechanical and electrical items as and when added or identified
  • Carry out minor building repairs when on-call

Person specification
  • Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3.
  • Proven communication skills
  • Experience in a maintenance environment
  • Hold a valid Driving License or be within 45 minutes commuting distance, both in and out of hours.
  • Be able to attend a face to face interview at the hospital.
  • Experience working in a health care environment
Skills and ED&I
  • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
  • Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
