Summary:
The EHS Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations across all construction, retrofit, and solar installation projects. Reporting to the Senior Operations Director, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a robust EHS management system that aligns with national and international standards, including ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. The EHS Manager will lead proactive risk assessments, conduct site audits, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance across diverse project environments. With a strong focus on prevention, incident investigation, and employee engagement, this role ensures that all projects are executed safely, sustainably, and in full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic advisor to project teams, fostering a culture of accountability and safety excellence across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and standards tailored to construction, retrofit, and solar installation operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and timely corrective actions are implemented.
- Provide expert guidance and training to project managers, supervisors, and field personnel on EHS best practices, emergency response, and safe work procedures.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate EHS considerations into project planning, design, and execution phases.
- Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics, including injury rates, environmental incidents, and compliance status, to senior leadership.
- Ensure all contractors and subcontractors adhere to the company's EHS standards and maintain required certifications.
- Manage environmental compliance activities, including waste management, emissions control, and sustainable construction practices.
- Stay current with evolving legislation, industry standards, and technological advancements in EHS, particularly in renewable energy and retrofit construction.
- Support the company's sustainability goals by promoting green building practices and reducing the environmental footprint of construction activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in EHS management within the construction, retrofit, or renewable energy sectors.
- Proven experience managing EHS programs on large-scale construction and solar installation projects, including site supervision and compliance oversight.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations such as OSHA, EU REACH, RoHS, and ISO 14001/45001 standards.
- Strong understanding of retrofit construction processes, including energy efficiency upgrades, insulation, and building envelope modifications.
- Experience with solar PV installation projects, including safety protocols for electrical systems, rooftop work, and structural integration.
- Certified Professional in EHS Management (e.g., CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, or equivalent) required.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence behavior at all levels.
- Proficient in EHS management software, data analysis tools, and digital reporting platforms.
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites across the region.
