Position Summary

The Earthworks Construction Manager/Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of earthworks and civil construction projects. The role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards while effectively managing personnel, subcontractors, plant, equipment, and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Manage all phases of earthworks projects from tender handover through to completion.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Coordinate site activities to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Lead project meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Construction Management

  • Oversee bulk earthworks, excavation, grading, cut-and-fill operations, site preparation, and related civil works.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
  • Monitor productivity and optimize utilization of labour, plant, and equipment.
  • Identify and mitigate construction risks and delays.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and client standards.
  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
  • Manage environmental controls and compliance obligations.

Financial Management

  • Manage project budgets and cost controls.
  • Review and approve subcontractor claims and supplier invoices.
  • Monitor project profitability and prepare regular financial reports.
  • Identify and manage variations, claims, and contractual issues.

Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, regulatory authorities, and subcontractors.
  • Provide regular project progress updates to senior management and clients.
  • Resolve site issues and stakeholder concerns effectively.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor site supervisors, engineers, and project teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in recruitment, performance management, and staff development initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum [5-10] years of experience managing earthworks, civil construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale earthmoving and site development projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and project controls.
  • Valid driver's license and relevant industry certifications.
