Duty Fleet Manager Liverpool Contract The Opportunity

Ford & Stanley are supporting a rolling stock client with the recruitment of a Duty Fleet Manager

This is a safety critical, frontline operational role focused on managing fleet faults and incidents in real time. You will act as the crucial link between Control, Fleet Engineering, and external stakeholders, ensuring defective units are managed safely, efficiently, and with minimal impact to the service.

The role suits someone comfortable operating in a high pressure control or operational environment, making sound decisions and maintaining clear communication when it matters most.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the Duty Fleet focal point within the MEC, managing fleet defects and incidents as they arise
  • Assess and coordinate the safe mitigation, withdrawal, or rotation of defects
  • Monitor real time fleet condition data to identify and manage emerging faults
  • Ensure all defects are correctly logged, documented, and progressed through fleet systems
  • Attend nightly production meetings, confirming unit availability and authorised concessions
  • Maintain clear shift logs and structured handovers for the oncoming Duty Fleet Manager
  • Ensure safety critical defects and incidents are escalated and managed in line with industry standards
  • Support incident investigation by providing accurate, timely operational information
  • Monitor fleet availability, unit diagrams, and daily service delivery requirements
Candidate Essential
  • Experience working in a rail operational, fleet, engineering, or control environment
  • Proven ability to operate calmly and effectively in high pressure, real time situations
  • Strong understanding of safety critical working and compliance within rail or similar industries
  • Confident communicator, able to engage with Control, engineering teams, and external maintainers
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail in reporting and documentation
  • Comfortable working shifts, including nights and weekends
Desirable
  • Background in fleet engineering, rolling stock, control room operations, or technical operations
  • Experience working with fault management, incident logs, or fleet performance systems
  • Knowledge of rail systems, standards
  • IOSH or similar safety qualification
