Digital and Technology Services at SYMCA is expanding as we build a modern department to better support the organisation and its future responsibilities. The Technical Services Engineer role sits within the DTS Technical Services team, which is responsible for the stability, reliability, and day-to-day operation of SYMCA's core digital infrastructure. The team provides hands-on engineering support across on-premise and cloud platforms and plays a key role in resolving complex incidents, maintaining well-run systems, and supporting technical change across the organisation. It works closely with colleagues across Digital and Technology Services, wider business teams, and external suppliers to ensure services are delivered effectively.

Applications must be accompanied by a cover letter to detail how you meet the essential criteria for the role as listed in the role profile (please see role profile attached). Please note that all applications should be made directly via our careers portal.

For this role, there will be a two-stage interview process. The first stage will be an online interview via Microsoft Teams, focused on assessing your technical knowledge, experience, and approach to problem-solving in scenarios relevant to the role. Successful candidates will then be invited to a second, face-to-face interview at our offices, which will focus on communication, collaboration, and how you work with others across the organisation.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Digital and Technology Services Technical Engineer to join SYMCA's Digital and Technology Services team. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on Microsoft 365, hybrid infrastructure, and the secure and reliable operation of business-critical systems that support essential public services.

The role combines day-to-day technical delivery with a forward-looking mindset. You will resolve complex incidents, maintain platform stability, and actively monitor changes across the Microsoft ecosystem. This includes understanding upcoming features and releases, assessing their impact on users and services, and feeding informed technical insight into how systems are run and improved.

A high standard of documentation and attention to detail is central to the role. You will be responsible for producing and maintaining clear, accurate technical documentation, configuration records, diagrams, and audit evidence that support operational resilience, service continuity, and effective knowledge sharing across the team.

You will work across live services and ongoing modernisation activity, with exposure to Microsoft 365, endpoint management, identity and access management, and hybrid infrastructure. The role suits someone who takes pride in well-run systems and wants their technical work to have a visible impact in a public sector organisation.

About you

You are a technically capable and detail-focused engineer with experience working across Microsoft 365 and hybrid environments. You take a structured and methodical approach to problem-solving and understand the importance of reliable digital services in a public sector organisation.

You are proactive and show initiative, while understanding the importance of governance, accountability, and working within agreed boundaries. You take ownership of your work, pay close attention to detail, and value clear, accurate documentation as part of running well-managed services.

You keep up to date with changes across the Microsoft platform, assess the impact of new features and releases on users and services, and use that insight to support continuous improvement. You are comfortable explaining technical issues clearly to colleagues with varying levels of technical understanding.

You work collaboratively with colleagues and partners, manage competing priorities effectively, and remain calm and organised when working under pressure. You are motivated by public service and want to contribute to a growing Digital and Technology Services team that is modernising how SYMCA is supported.

For full details of the skills, knowledge, and experience required for this role, please refer to the attached role profile.
