About us

We are a specialist organisation supporting women and their children affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. We deliver a range of services including domestic abuse and sexual violence support, counselling, children's therapy, a helpline, and education and training programmes.

The role

We are looking for a Domestic Abuse Practitioner or IDVA to join our casework team. Our domestic abuse service provides a vital lifeline to women experiencing all forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, economic, spiritual and technological abuse.

Key responsibilities
  • Risk and needs assessment
  • Safety planning and key work
  • Supporting access to counselling, legal advice and other services
  • Playing a key role in empowering women to rebuild their lives and move towards a safer future
About you

You will be:

  • Experienced in working with vulnerable and high risk women, particularly those affected by domestic abuse
  • Trauma informed, empathetic and proactive
  • Knowledgeable about the gendered nature of domestic abuse and sexual violence
  • Familiar with, and sensitive to, the needs of the Jewish community
  • Comfortable using digital tools and systems
Development

If you are not already IDVA qualified, you will be eligible to apply for SafeLives IDVA training after six months in post.

Personal Specification Knowledge and Understanding
  • Knowledge and understanding of the effects of domestic abuse on women and children (E)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Jewish community in Britain (E)
  • Speaking and understanding Ivrit (D)
  • Working knowledge of confidentiality (E)
  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims and objectives of a women's aid organisation (E)
Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience of working in an advice, outreach, housing or other domestic abuse organisation supporting women (E)
  • IDVA or DAPA qualified (D)
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work as part of a team (E)
  • Computer literate and comfortable with messaging apps, able to develop relevant technical skills (E)
  • Ability to key work and work within an agreed assessment and support planning framework (E)
  • Ability to liaise with and access statutory and voluntary agency resources on behalf of service users (E)
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of service users (E)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (E)
  • Ability to work well under pressure (E)
  • Ability to keep excellent service data and produce monitoring reports as required (E)
  • Possess good administrative skills including keeping high quality and accurate case notes (E)
Other
  • Ability to attend occasional evening meetings and partake in other out of hours activities, including a cover duty system (E)
  • Experience of developing new, innovative projects or services (D)
  • Ability to manage professional boundaries (E)
