In this role, you'll lead District Seven's Traffic Operations Department for the Florida Department of Transportation. You'll manage budgets, oversee traffic safety projects, and implement systems like ITS, ATIS, TIMS, and Road Rangers. You'll direct engineering studies, signal optimization, signage, and data collection. As a licensed Professional Engineer, you'll review and approve technical plans and documents. You'll also manage consultants, represent FDOT in public forums, and guide staff development to ensure continuous improvement.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Administer the District Seven Traffic Operations Program in accordance with the policies, procedures, and rules of the Florida Department of Transportation. Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the Traffic Operations Cost Center.

Direct and manage the development and implementation of the Traffic Operations and Safety portion of the Work Program to solve traffic operational and safety problems using State and Federal funds utilizing Department Standards and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Direct the development, implementation, and operation of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), and Automated Traveler Information System (ATIS), a Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) and a freeway service patrol (Road Rangers).

Direct the development of traffic engineering studies, analyses, and reports regarding traffic operational safety problems, including crash investigations, signal warrants, and access management.

Direct activities related to traffic signal systems optimizations, signal timing, highway signing and markings, traffic regulations, traffic signal maintenance agreements and traffic data collection.

Oversee the selection and management of traffic engineering consultants which support Traffic Operations programs and activities. Serves on District Consultant Selection Committees as needed.

Responsible for all traffic signals and signing and marking plans produced by District Traffic Operations personnel. Oversee and/or approve these plans as necessary as responsible professional engineer. As a registered Professional Engineer, this position oversees and/or signs and seals personally, plans, reports, and other documents as required.

Represent the Department in public meetings, workshops, and hearing in technical forums with other agencies regarding Traffic Operations programs and issues.

Provide effective leadership and direct staff to ensure accomplishment of departmental duties and continuous organizational improvement. Manage the overall training and human resources development program for Traffic Operations staff.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • understand and use information technology to manage and manipulate data to support activities such as reporting, summarizing, analyzing, planning, measuring performance, and decision-making in an effective, efficient manner.

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • This position requires a Professional Engineering Registration in accordance with Florida Statute, Chapter 471

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • This position requires a Level II Background Check in accordance with the Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) and Section 282.709, Florida Statutes.
