Job Description

We're looking for a Director of Risk & Assurance. This role will report to the CFO and be a member of the DCC Senior Leadership team. The Director of Risk and Assurance will play a key role in driving organisational maturity through:

  • Developing and leading the operation of effective business-wide risk management and internal controls systems, capability and behaviours.
  • Delivering targeted and insightful internal audit to assure risk and drive improvement.
  • Driving continuous improvement in the maturity and effectiveness of the Risk and Assurance function, through capability development, adoption of best practices and processes, and systemisation and digitisation of workflow, data, reporting and insight
How you will contribute to transforming energy and shaping the future.
  • Risk Management Leadership: Operate, assure, and continuously improve DCC's risk management strategy, risk operating model, and risk appetite, ensuring consistent company-wide processes and reporting to ExCo, Audit & Risk Committee, and the Board.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Oversee and enhance the Internal Controls Framework, including policy, audit, compliance, and license-driven external audits, ensuring a robust 3rd Line of Defence and effective corporate governance.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Building: Lead and develop a high-performing risk, audit, and compliance function, leveraging internal and external resources to maintain fit-for-purpose skills, resilience, and performance.
  • Digital & Process Optimization: Drive systemisation and digitalisation of risk, audit, and compliance processes to improve efficiency, data capture, reporting, and actionable insight.
  • Health, Safety & Leadership: Define and implement DCC HSE policies, ensure compliance and staff wellbeing, and act as a visible, effective member of the Senior Leadership Team, role-modelling values and supporting wider leadership development.

  • Executive Communication & Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to engage, influence, and present confidently to ExCo, Board members, and senior stakeholders.
  • Risk & Process Leadership: Experience in developing, embedding, and maturing consistent, high-quality risk management and improvement processes across an organisation.
  • Analytical & Structured Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesise data, analysis, and insights into clear, concise reports and actionable recommendations.
  • Team Leadership & Organisational Skills: Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and lead high-performing teams effectively.
  • Adaptability & Resilience: High self-awareness, ability to adapt style and approach to context, take feedback, and demonstrate tenacity to overcome challenges and deliver results.
