St Leonard's Hospice is recruiting a Director of Finance and Corporate Services to lead the financial and operational corporate functions including Finance, Governance & Risk, IT and Estates that underpin our vital work. This is an exciting time to join us as we celebrate our 40th anniversary and embark on our ambitious programme of digital transformation so we continue to remain vibrant and resilient for years to come and help more people across York and North Yorkshire.

Being a key member of the Executive Team and reporting directly into the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance & Corporate Services will ensure the financial sustainability, operational efficiency and regulatory compliance of the organisation, enabling the delivery of outstanding patient care and services.

This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week between normally office hours, Monday to Friday.

The closing date for this role is 13th July and interviews will be taking place on 18th July.

Main duties of the job

Your main priorities as Director of Finance & Corporate Services will be to:

  • Develop and deliver financial and corporate services strategies aligned with the Hospice's mission and strategic objectives
  • Provide inspirational and transformational leadership of staff responsible for delivering the finance and corporate services functions
  • Lead the Hospice's financial function, ensuring it is responsive to the needs of donors, supporters and both internal and external partners
  • Lead on capital projects and maintenance of Hospice buildings and property to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, health and safety

In order to succeed in this role, you will need to have:

  • A recognised accountancy qualification
  • Expert knowledge of charity finance, law and governance
  • Effective leadership skills and experience of successfully leading multi-disciplinary teams such as IT, Health & Safety Facilities, Housekeeping and Catering
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders

Job responsibilities

The Director of Finance and Corporate Services will lead the financialand operational corporate functions that underpin our vital work.

The Director of Finance and Corporate Services is a key member of theExecutive Team, responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of theHospices finance, governance & risk, IT and estates functions. This roleensures the financial sustainability, operational efficiency, and regulatorycompliance of the organisation, enabling the delivery of outstanding patientcare and services.

As the Director of Finance and Corporate Services you will have overallresponsibility for ensuring high quality financial, legal and operationaldelivery with a focus on identifying and supporting business cases to enableand facilitate/ensure future financial sustainability.

Mainduties and responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and deliver financial and corporateservices strategies aligned with the Hospices mission and strategicobjectives.
  • Provide inspirational and transformationalleadership of staff responsible for delivering the finance and corporateservice functions.
  • Contribute to the overall leadership and strategicdirection of the Hospice as part of the Executive Team.
  • Demonstrate positive role modelling in line withthe organisational values.
  • Promote and support partnership working internallyand externally for the benefit of staff, volunteers and our beneficiaries.
  • Work with the CEO and wider executive team tomaximise the effectiveness of service developments.
  • Lead the Hospices financial function, ensuring itis responsive to the needs of donors, supporters and both internal and externalpartners.
  • Be the main contact for HMRC, Companies House andthe Charity Commission, assuming responsibilities of legal compliance.
  • Be responsible for the financial planning, budgeting,forecasting, and timely reporting processes across all areas of the hospice.
  • Develop and deliver model business cases withincorporate services and across the wider organisation.
  • Oversee and be responsible for financial controls,risk management, and compliance with regulatory standards including (but notlimited to) VAT, Gift Aid, NI, corporation and income taxation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely production of managementaccounts and statutory financial statements.
  • Advise the CEO and Board on financial performance,risks, and opportunities including investments.
  • Be the Executive lead for Finance and InvestmentSub-Committee.

Corporate Services

  • Lead, manage and develop high-performing corporateservices functions, including:

- IT and digital transformation

- Estates and facilities management (includingfacilities, catering and housekeeping)

- Procurement and contract management

- Governance & risk, policies, and compliance

- Business continuity and Health & Safety

  • Lead on capital projects and maintenance of Hospicebuildings and property to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, health andsafety.

Governance & Risk

  • Serve as Company Secretary, supporting the Board ofTrustees in best governance practices.
  • Maintain robust risk management frameworks andensure effective internal controls.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Recognised accountancy qualification (e.g ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Educated to first degree level or appropriate experience
Experience
  • Proven experience in a senior financial leadership role within a charity, or not-for-profit organisation
  • Expert knowledge of charity finance, charity law and governance
  • Experience of managing and leading internal and external financial audit
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, planning and decision making skills
  • Proven track record of service review and developing KPIs, outside of a finance function
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams such as Facilities, Housekeeping, Catering, IT, Health and Safety.
  • Ability to manage complex workload, prioritising and delegating as required
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team
