Director of Finance - S151

This is an opportunity for an experienced S151 Finance Leader to provide strategic financial leadership, governance and organisational direction within a complex local authority environment. The role requires strong stakeholder management, financial resilience planning and the ability to drive performance and transformation at pace.

Description

• Lead and oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes.
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and policies.
• Provide strategic financial advice to senior management and stakeholders.
• Manage and optimise financial resources to achieve organisational goals.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks effectively.
• Supervise and develop the accounting and finance team.
• Prepare detailed financial reports and forecasts for internal and external use.
• Collaborate across departments to support financial decision-making and policy implementation.

Profile

A successful Director of Finance should have:

• Previous experience of operating as an S151 within a local authority is essential
• Strong expertise in accounting and finance within the public sector.
• Proven ability to manage complex budgets and financial resources.
• Experience in providing strategic financial guidance to senior stakeholders.
• Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience in preparing financial reports and forecasts.
