This position is based in Julia Creek, the administrative centre of McKinlay Shire. Julia Creek is located in the heart of the North-Western Queensland on the Overlander's Way, 650km west of Townsville and 250km east of Mount Isa, lies the heart of the Outback known as Julia Creek, the business centre of McKinlay Shire.
McKinlay Shire is the southern gateway to the Gulf, spans 41,000 square kilometres and has a population of 800 residents. Julia Creek is a friendly community which punches well above its weight for a small community and offers an abundance of facilities and opportunities for its residents. The facilities include, medical centre, 24/7 accessible gym, swimming pool with water slides, dog park, bike safety park and indoor sports centre and tennis courts just to name a few. Recreational activities also are plenty with many great annual events (Races, Rodeos, Campdrafts, Arts & Cultural Workshops) and is home to the iconic Dirt 'n' Dust Festival.
McKinlay Shire Council is seeking to employ a Director Engineering, Environment and Regulatory Services to provide effective strategic leadership, with the ability to foster a productive culture that prides itself on delivering high quality outcomes, while ensuring the natural and built environment is maintained and developed to support existing and future lifestyles.
As an integral member of the ELT, the Director Engineering, Environment and Regulatory Services reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and plays an important role leading the council's engineering department, including but not limited to:
- Delivery of Shire services and operational programs
- Management of an extensive road network
- Medium and long-term planning of council works programs
- Delivery of infrastructure projects - capital and sustaining capital works
- Resource coordination
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering and RPEQ registration will be highly regarded.
- Extensive experience in project management, construction management and tender management ideally within a Local Government environment.
- High ability in the preparation and interpretation of financial, statistical and business data. Ability to interpret and apply the relevant
- Acts and legislation including WH&S and procurement and contractual requirements.
- Proven leadership capability with the ability to lead change, stimulate a high level of performance and foster teamwork.
- Ability to influence, negotiate and communicate effectively including the ability to build effective professional relationships with internal and external customers.
- The position is offered under a performance-based contract with an attractive remuneration package to be negotiated with the successful applicant, circa $273,337 (TRP), inclusive of superannuation, motor vehicle, rental allowance, telephone, and other applicable benefits.
