On behalf of Tesco IMS, AMS are now looking for a DevOps Lead for a 6 Month contract based in Remotely.

Tesco IMS deal in the personal - from pet insurance for your best friend, and home insurance for peace of mind, to motor insurance for your dream car or travel money for that trip you've worked hard for. And that means they always work with heart. Whether they're helping their customers or looking after their people, you'll find there's a warmth and friendliness to everything they do.

What You'll Do:

We are seeking a hands-on DevOps Lead with deep expertise in tooling, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure. This role will own the creation, optimisation, and governance of our DevOps tooling ecosystem, ensuring scalable and reproducible solutions across a growing engineering organisation. You will act as SME for CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and AWS, while also providing strong technical leadership and peer guidance.

This is a key role within a Day-2 greenfield programme, where you will help shape best practices, streamline toolsets, and validate the implementation work delivered by the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Tooling & CI/CD Ownership

  • Lead and evolve the DevOps tooling environment, with deep expertise in GitHub Runners, GitHub Actions, and pipeline development.
  • Design, build, and optimise CI/CD pipelines for reliability, scalability, and reusability.
  • Verify and validate pipeline and tooling implementations delivered by the engineering teams.
  • Conduct peer reviews of CI/CD pipelines, IaC modules, and DevOps-related code.

Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering

  • Oversee infrastructure implementation using AWS and Terraform, ensuring best practice and high-quality execution.
  • Contribute to infrastructure architecture discussions and technical design for the greenfield project.
  • Maintain and improve infrastructure as code modules, ensuring consistency and repeatability.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as the subject-matter expert for DevOps, CI/CD, and platform tooling.
  • Mentor and support engineers, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Work cross-functionally with software engineers, platform teams, and technical leads to drive operational excellence.
  • Help rationalise and reduce the toolset to a scalable, efficient, future-proof ecosystem.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish standards for tooling usage, quality, and automation.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of pipelines, build systems, and deployment workflows.
  • Support the team in establishing a strong DevOps culture grounded in reliability, observability, and automation.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expert-level experience with GitHub Actions, GitHub Runners, and end-to-end CI/CD pipeline development.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (eg, ECS, EKS, Lambda, VPC, IAM).
  • Advanced experience with Terraform and modular IaC design.
  • Proven ability to design and stand up scalable tooling platforms from scratch.
  • Strong background in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure roles.
  • Ability to review and validate complex technical implementations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; comfortable mentoring teams and collaborating widely.
  • Experience in greenfield or early-stage platform build-out is a strong plus.
