Job Title: Despatch Clerk (Regular Afternoons - Sun to Thurs)

Contract Type: Permanent (Full Time)

Shift patterns: 14:00 - 22:00 (Sunday to Thursday)

Location: Burton on Trent - DE13 0BB

Salary: £28,309.23 ( £26, 897.13 + Shift premium for Afternoon shift = £28, 309.23)

We are recruiting for a hands on Despatch Clerk to join our fast paced logistics operation. This is a highly involved role and not just your average Despatch role.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Order Processing & Systems Control

  • Process customer orders using WMS platforms including Aurora and Calidus, alongside Power BI and Velocity
  • Ensure all data is accurate and systems are updated to maintain full operational visibility
  • Release orders in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring all relevant despatch documentation is complete and correct
  • Support smooth outbound operations by maintaining control of order flow

Load & Transport Planning

  • Plan vehicle loads with careful consideration of weight distribution, volumes, and transport compliance
  • Work closely with the planning team and other depots to align despatch with delivery schedules
  • Produce clear loading instructions, including trailer capacity and load breakdowns
  • Communicate regularly with management to support daily targets and overall performance

Yard, Vehicle & Site Control

  • Oversee vehicle movement from arrival to departure, ensuring site procedures are followed
  • Prepare and verify trailer seals and record vehicle weights using the weighbridge
  • Control site access and egress, including carrying out staff searches where required
  • Support loaders with the structured despatch of containers and trailers
  • Liaise with transport teams to arrange trailers in line with operational requirements
  • Maintain accurate vehicle and despatch records using spreadsheets and internal systems
  • Carry out general reception duties as part of site control responsibilities
This role would suit people who
  • Previous experience in a Despatch Clerk, Operations Clerk, or similar role is essential
  • Comfortable multitasking and "wearing several hats" within a busy Warehouse environment
  • Confident working alongside loaders and managing high volumes
  • Strong communication skills across radio, email, phone and Microsoft Teams
  • Good MS Office and general PC knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail and confident with numbers and maths
  • Calm, organised and able to work under pressure in a busy operation

Full training will be provided; however, applicants must have experience in a similar despatch or operations based role within a busy environment.
