Job Description

Tradewind are recruiting! Are you a practical and organised individual with experience in manufacturing, engineering, design, woodwork or another technical environment?

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a Design & Technology Technician to join a successful secondary school in Manchester. The role will start as soon as possible and is a full-time, long-term position paying £105-£115 per day, depending on experience and relevant qualifications.

There is also the opportunity for the successful candidate to secure a permanent position, subject to a successful application and interview with the school.

To join us and be successful in this Design & Technology Technician role, you will need to:

  • Have practical or technical experience gained within education, manufacturing, engineering, design, woodwork or a similar setting

  • Be practical, proactive and highly organised

  • Be confident preparing materials, tools and equipment

  • Be able to work independently and make appropriate decisions

  • Have good communication and teamwork skills

  • Be comfortable working with secondary-aged pupils

  • Be willing to follow and implement health and safety procedures

  • Be subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances where applicable and professional reference checks

  • Provide a CV containing a full employment and education history, with any employment breaks explained

  • Have the legal right to work in the UK

Previous experience working as a Design & Technology Technician or within a school workshop would be advantageous, although applicants with relevant transferable skills and technical experience are also encouraged to apply.

The role

Working alongside the Design & Technology teaching team, the successful candidate will help ensure that practical lessons run safely and effectively. Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, setting up and checking materials, tools and equipment

  • Supporting teaching staff and pupils during practical lessons

  • Maintaining a safe, clean and well-organised workshop environment

  • Ensuring equipment is operational and complies with health and safety requirements

  • Arranging maintenance and repairs where required

  • Managing the safe storage of equipment and monitoring stock levels

  • Completing practical, creative and administrative tasks

  • Supporting departmental activities, projects and school events

  • Contributing to pupils' progress and enjoyment of Design & Technology
