Dermatology Administration Assistant

The Medical Specialties Division is seeking to appoint an Administration Assistant on a 12 month fixed term contract to join the Dermatology Administration Team at University College London Hospital. The successful candidate will support both the reception service at Mortimer Market and the wider administrative function within the Dermatology department. The ideal applicant will be proactive, highly organised, and possess excellent communication and IT skills. They will be able to effectively prioritise their workload, adapt to changing service demands, and provide support to colleagues across the team when required.
Main dutiesThe post holder will work closely with a wide range of staff, including administrative and clinical colleagues, nursing and medical teams, allied health professionals, and support workers. They will serve as a key point of contact for patients, relatives, GPs, external healthcare professionals, and tertiary referrers, both in person and via telephone. Although previous NHS experience would be advantageous, it is not essential. Proven experience working in an office environment is a key requirement. The successful candidate must be able to manage a busy and varied workload while maintaining a professional and patient focused approach. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, together with strong interpersonal abilities, are essential.
Qualifications and Experience- Graduated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, acquired through training and/or prior experience.
- Awareness of confidentiality requirements and knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
- NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification.
- Experience working in a non routine environment, able to respond to queries and deal with unpredictable situations.
- Experience working in an administrative environment, with knowledge of a comprehensive range of administrative procedures.
- Ability to make decisions in a constantly changing patient facing environment using judgement to resolve queries or escalation when necessary.
- Communication: able to communicate clearly and sensitively with a wide range of patients, even when there are barriers such as language difficulties or distressed patients.
- Work independently, managing own workload and prioritising tasks.
- Understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duties.

Salary£31,554 to £33,270 a year (per annum inclusive of HCAS)
