Consultant Dermatologist

The closing date is 28 May 2026

This is a substantive Consultant Dermatologist post. We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative consultant to become a core member of our friendly, supportive Dermatology Department at Beckenham Beacon. Beckenham is a pleasant suburb in the London Borough of Bromley, with excellent transport links to central London (25 mins) and surrounding areas. There are high quality schools nearby, including state grammar schools.

We provide a very high-quality multidisciplinary dermatology service, with high levels of patient satisfaction. We offer services in general dermatology (including biologics), skin cancer, paediatric dermatology, skin surgery, phototherapy, PDT and iontophoresis.

We have a highly successful teledermatology service, through which we assess patients aged under 70 referred on the urgent skin cancer pathway. The quality of the images taken by our highly skilled medical photographers allows us to confidently discharge a large proportion of patients, so that we can focus on providing face to face appointments (including same day surgical procedures) for those who need them.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at Beckenham Beacon. The post holder will also cover acute dermatology at Princess Royal University & Orpington Hospitals. The job plan comprises 10 Programmed Activities. There is no on call commitment. The postholder will ensure patients receive early specialist input and to help develop patient centred models of care to meet the increasing number of referrals. They will deliver general dermatology, paediatric dermatology and skin cancer clinics and skin surgery procedures. They will also carry out virtual reviews of patients referred on the urgent skin cancer teledermatology pathway and participate in a weekly skin cancer MDT meeting and monthly departmental meetings. They will also be expected to have a commitment to teaching and training of medical, nursing and pharmacy staff. General dermatology outpatient clinic templates typically comprise 5 new patients and a maximum of 8 follow up patients. Two week wait skin cancer clinic templates typically comprise 10 new patients and a maximum of 3 follow up patients, plus allocated timeslots for 'breaking bad news'. Teledermatology Virtual Clinics contain a variable number of cases according to Job Plans; this pathway is used for a large proportion of skin cancer referrals meeting the necessary criteria. The department aims to conduct face to face skin cancer clinics on a 'see and treat' model, with patients having diagnostic procedures when they attend clinic.
