Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic registered nurse to work within our Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), with the opportunity to support across the surgical floor when required.
SAU is a 10 bedded short stay assessment unit that cares for a wide variety of acute emergency surgical conditions as well as being the front door for emergency surgical referrals.
Main duties of the jobTo work with the senior nursing team to ensure the development and training of nurses within their wards/depts.
Acts as deputy to the ward/dept manager and supports managerial aims of the ward/dept.
Take charge of the unit on a regular basis supporting all staff on shift when needed.
The post holder will possess excellent clinical skills and will supervise and deliver direct patient care.
Co-ordinate patient flow across the surgical floor (SAU, Ward 16 and Ward 18), ensuring appropriate patient placement and effective patient flow through the service.
Under the supervision of the ward/dept manager assists in the management of the team of nurses in professional and practice development

Person specification EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING- Registered Nurse (Level 1)
- Recognised teaching and assessing course (PASS/MSPP)
- Extended nurse training
- Evidence of further continued professional development
- Sound years' experience as a band 5 nurse in a general surgery setting.
- Previous experience as shift/team leader essential
- Additional experience in a speciality other than surgery
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Demonstrates the ability to be able to work effectively across the surgical floor
- Ability to work required shift pattern
- Knowledge of current issues facing nurses
- High motivation and ability to motivate others
- IT literate
- Ability to work within a team and Independently
- Managerial and leadership ability
- Knowledge of evidence and research-based practice
