The haematology service at UCH has 98 inpatient acute haematology/BMT beds across two sites - Grafton Way Building and University College Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated cancer nurse wishing to develop management and leadership skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Main duties of the job

We are a nurse-led service at the cutting edge of nursing developments. Our wards are nurse-led and supported by a nursing infrastructure including a dedicated nursing central venous access team, nursing chemotherapy team and a nursing educational team. This provides ward nurses with opportunities to develop quickly and time to care for patients. Ward ratios are on average 1 nurse to 3 or 4 patients. T16North is a 16-bed ward where you will care for haematology patients undergoing treatments including chemotherapy, CAR-T and stem cell transplant.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Successful completion of at least one Haematology-specific course at level 6, or 4 years clinical cancer experience
  • Teaching/mentorship qualification or equivalent
  • Attained BSc qualification
Experience
  • Previous experience at Band 6 level (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in this specialty
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional development in line with KSF; maintains updates Portfolio
  • Demonstrates awareness of the role of preceptor/facilitator
  • Reflective practice
  • Demonstrates evidence of ability to educate others
Provision of care to meet health and wellbeing needs
  • Articulates reasons for desire to work in this clinical area
People Management
  • Able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior staff
Communication
  • Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
