The Royal Marsden Hospital is Europe's largest Oncology centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton. The Department of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Radioisotope Therapy is looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join our team on the Chelsea site. The successful candidate will manage the Chelsea department and work very closely with the Radioisotope Service Manager. The candidate will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging. The position will be at our Chelsea site.
Main duties of the job- To possess a distinct level of responsibility in providing a comprehensive service for Nuclear Medicine.
- The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of the Nuclear Medicine Service.
- To work closely with the Radioisotope Service Lead, Deputy Service Leads, Nuclear Medicine consultants and all Nuclear Medicine staff.
- The post holder will work closely with Sutton Deputy Service Leads, working collaboratively and interchangeably as they will need to cross cover on holidays and other absences supporting each other.
- The post-holder will liaise with a variety of staff throughout the Trust, including wards and theatres and with those from other NHS trusts. The key working relationships in the department will be with the imaging, medical, clerical and nursing staff.
- The post holder will have considerable patient contact, including contact with the terminally ill. Patient presentation will include the unconscious, incapacitated, confused and those with physical and mental disabilities.
- To manage shifts according to the workload with the guidance of the Radioisotope Service Manager.
- To provide clinical management to all the Nuclear Medicine staff.
- To possess enough knowledge about Radiation Protection to provide support to other departments and other professionals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To ensure the timely, efficient and courteous provision of Nuclear Medicine services within the available resources.
- To support the Radioisotope Services Manager in the operational management of the Nuclear Medicine department.
- To deputise for the Radioisotope Services Manager as and when required.
- To ensure that working practices meet current professional standards and legislation (including radiation protection and Health & Safety) and are documented, accessible and regularly reviewed.
- To work with Trust physicists to ensure all equipment is maintained to a high standard and meets QA and H&S requirements.
- Responsible for developing working practices to meet current professional standards and legislation, including the provision of documents that are accessible and regularly reviewed in line with the imaging quality management system and QSI accreditation.
- Manage the effective and efficient deployment/rota of staff with attention to skill mix and experience, this to be done in conjunction of Deputy service leads as required.
- To have expert knowledge on the range of the technical applications available of the scanner and to train and advice staff accordingly.
- To supervise Nuclear Medicine Radiographers/Technologists within Nuclear Medicine and therapies to ensure high standards and smooth running of the service.
- To solve problems which are beyond the capabilities or expertise of the Radiographers/Technologists/Nurses within the department.
- To monitor and report equipment faults and to determine the severity of a problem and its probable impact on the workload after discussions with Nuclear Medicine Physics team. To make a balanced judgment on when to call in a service engineer, considering the effect on the normal running of the service.
- BSc in Nuclear Medicine or Equivalent
- Evidence of relevant further education
- Evidence of Specialised Clinical Experience

- Experience of Nuclear Medicine, radioisotope therapies and PET/CT Technologist/radiographer and other staff management

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
