Deputy Head of Nursery (Interim)

• Interim contract - start ASAP
• Initial 3-6 month contract
• £400 per day
• Inside IR35 (via umbrella)
• Fully on-site working - 5 days p/week

Baltimore Consulting are supporting a Local Authority in London who are looking to recruit an interim Deputy Head of Nursery. This is a critical, hands on interim opportunity for an experienced early years leader who thrives in complex environments. As the Deputy Head of Nursery, you will step into a visible, on site leadership role where your presence, judgement and people skills will directly stabilise and strengthen day to day nursery operations. Reporting into senior leadership, you will be a trusted figure for staff, setting clear standards and restoring confidence across the setting during a high risk period.

Your Role as the Interim Deputy Head of Nursery

• Operational leadership of the nursery, ensuring safe, compliant and high quality daily delivery.
• Curriculum oversight, embedding strong EYFS practice and child development standards.
• Visible staff leadership, supporting, guiding and challenging teams on site.
• Safeguarding & health and safety, ensuring robust compliance and supervision processes.
• Stability and consistency, raising standards in a challenging or recovering environment.

Your Previous Experience as a Deputy Head of Nursery

• Early Years leadership experience as a Deputy Head, Nursery Manager or multi site lead.
• Strong knowledge of EYFS and Ofsted, with confidence applying standards in practice.
• Proven experience in difficult settings, including improvement or recovery environments.
• Hands on operational background, not purely strategic or advisory.
• Strong safeguarding mindset, with confidence addressing poor practice directly.
