Depot Manager

Salary: Up to £65,000 + 15% bonus + Company CarLocation: CroydonContract: Full-time, Permanent

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Depot Manager to lead our clients busy depot in Croydon. This site operates with a £20m P&L, delivering £3m profit, and plays a key role in the London commercial waste operations. You will oversee a large, fast-paced environment with 45 drivers and 12 traffic officers/administration staff, ensuring safe, efficient and profitable service delivery.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership
  • Lead day-to-day depot operations, ensuring compliance, safety, and service excellence.
  • Manage a diverse operational team including drivers, traffic officers and administrative support.
  • Maintain high fleet efficiency, route optimisation, and service reliability.
Financial & Commercial Accountability
  • Full ownership of the depot P&L (c. £20m) with responsibility for delivering and improving a £3m profit line.
  • Drive continuous commercial improvements, cost control, and margin enhancement.
  • Support business growth by identifying new opportunities and enhancing customer satisfaction.
People Management
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching, and performance management across the depot team.
  • Maintain high engagement, ensure effective communication, and support ongoing training and development.
  • Build a positive culture focused on safety, accountability, and high performance.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure full adherence to Health & Safety, environmental regulations, and transport legislation.
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all operational activities.
About You

We're looking for a strong operational leader with a proven background in commercial waste management. You'll thrive in a hands-on, fast-moving environment and be comfortable leading large teams and complex operations.

Essential Experience
  • Significant experience in commercial waste, environmental services, logistics, or related sectors.
  • Strong P&L ownership background with success in improving profitability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large frontline teams in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge of transport operations, compliance and health & safety.
