Dentist with a Special Interest in Oral Surgery

This role will involvecontribution to a specialist led minor oral surgeryservice including providing treatment on referral to patients under localanesthetic. The role holder will also contribute to the organizations urgentcare services within Peninsula DentalSocial Enterprise CIC (PDSE). The role may also involve someundergraduate/postgraduate teachingdepending on experience, but the primary role is delivering the oral surgeryservice.
Main duties of the jobThere will be close working relationships with:
Senior clinical staff of PDSE and academic colleagues from the PeninsulaDental School including the Clinical Leads for Exeter, Derriford, Devonportand Truro.
Professor of Community Dentistry
Director of Clinical Dentistry
Staff in NHS Commissioning teams
Clinical dutieswill be as directed by the line manager and PDSE clinicalleadership team.
The appointee will be expectedto contribute to the development of local NHS services as directed by the Chief Executive.
Teaching
Theappointee may contribute to undergraduate/postgraduate student teaching (toinclude clinical supervision) depending on their experience. PDSE has a closeworking arrangement with the Dental School and there may be opportunities for flexible working arrangements to develop careerprogression.
Managerial
Themanagement responsibility of the post-holder will be via the Lead Clinician.The post holder will be expected to attend relevantmeetings to discussservice, policy and procedureas directed.
Clinical Audit and ClinicalGovernance
The post holder will take an active part in department audit arrangements and work closely with the Directors of PDSE toundertake duties as deemed appropriate.
Research
There may be opportunities to support researchin the school relevant to the role andspecialty.

Job responsibilitiesTherole holder will be expected to contribute to delivery of the specialist-ledminor oral surgery service commensurate with the NHS Commissioning guidance for minor oral surgeryand in line with local NHScare pathways. This is a hands-on clinical role and the role holder willprovide treatment on referral to patients under local anesthetic.
Therole holder will also be expected to contribute to delivery of the urgent careservice (4 patients seen per session) within the organization.
Therole holder may contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching(including clinical supervision) depending on their experience.
PDSE offersfull clinical and administrative supportto the role holder.
Activities may be required outside of normal working hours and ingeographically remote locations and so some flexibility is essential. Some activities may be requiredin the evening and at weekends.
The post holder will be an employee of PDSEand may also hold an Honorary Contractwith the University of Plymouth depending on the final job plan. Allstaff are responsible for ensuring compliance with PDSE Health & Safetyrequirements and regulations.

Person Specification Experience- Minimum of 2-years experience undertaking Oral Surgery in a primary or secondary care setting.
- Experience of undertaking urgent care.
- Diploma in Dental sedation, SAAD training in conscious sedation or equivalent.
- Experience of interdisciplinary team working.
- Evidence of an interest in teaching and training.
- Teaching qualification.
- Undergraduate/Postgraduate teaching experience.
- Full registration with GDC.
- Fellowship in Dental Surgery (FDS) or membership of Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS/MJDF) or equivalent.
- Effective participation in clinical audit.
- Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems, reporting and learning from others.
- Research qualifications such as MSc, MClinDent or PhD.
- Publications in peer-reviewed journal.
- Committed to the overall aims of patient care.
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development
