Posted 1 day 19 hours ago by Captain
Captain is a data analytics platform that enables brands and retailers to collaborate more effectively. By providing producers with the right insights and predictions, they can better manage how their products reach consumers. This is essential as we believe there are still too many inefficiencies in the supply chain.
Over the past year, we've built a solid technical foundation and secured several leading clients, especially in the food industry. We're currently expanding rapidly, backed by EU funding to develop models for price elasticity, demand forecasting, and assortment rationalization - all aimed at enabling data-driven category management.
About the Role
This is a pivotal role for us - and can be for you too. We are looking for a Data Scientist with experience in Category Management, either on the retailer or supplier side. You will help us integrate complex data sources and build scalable models that create real value for our clients.
Your work will focus on bringing together syndicated and proprietary datasets (e.g., Nielsen, Circana, GfK, SIS, 7EVEN, ex-factory) and transforming them into insights and predictions that help our clients win with retail. This role is both analytical and strategic - you'll be closely involved in product development, pilot projects, and customer delivery.
You'll be working in a small, fast-moving team - which means you'll get a lot of responsibility early on, but also have the chance to learn and grow quickly. You'll be close to the decision-making and directly see the impact of your work on real client projects.
Your Profile- 3+ years experience as a data scientist or analyst
- Experience with category management data and workflows
- Strong command of Python, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
- Experience with price elasticity, forecasting, or clustering models
- Comfortable working with messy, high-volume datasets
- Fluent in English and Dutch
Bonus points if you have:
- FMCG experience at a supplier or retailer
- Worked with assortment optimization or promo analytics
- Familiarity with Azure, Databricks, or similar platforms
What to Expect
- Competitive salary between €4,250 and €5,000 per month (based on experience)
- Employee stock option plan
- One-year contract with permanent intent
- 25 vacation days
- New MacBook
- Mentorship and training budget
- Hybrid work setup
- Office in central Rotterdam (Microlab community)

Application Process
We keep it simple and personal. After your application, we'll reach out for a conversation with our team. No unnecessary rounds - just a chance to get to know each other and explore fit.

Apply directly through LinkedIn! We're excited to hear how your experience in category management can help our clients grow - and how you want to grow with us.
