Data Protection Officer (DPO)

We're working with an organisation based in Belfast who are looking to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO) / Head of Information Governance on a permanent basis.

This is a senior, influential role with responsibility for leading data protection, privacy, and information governance activity across the organisation, ensuring compliance with GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and wider regulatory requirements.

The RoleAs Data Protection Officer, you will act as the organisation's subject matter expert on data protection and privacy, providing both strategic and operational oversight.

Key responsibilities include:

• Acting as the named DPO and primary point of contact for the ICO
• Leading and overseeing compliance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation
• Advising senior leadership on data protection risk and governance
• Developing, reviewing, and maintaining data protection policies and procedures
• Managing DPIAs, data breaches, SARs, and regulatory queries
• Providing guidance and training to stakeholders across the organisation
• Embedding a strong data protection and privacy culture

About YouWe're keen to speak with candidates who have:

• Proven experience working as a Data Protection Officer or in a senior data protection / privacy role
• In depth knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and information governance frameworks
• Experience operating in regulated, public sector, or complex organisations
• Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing at leadership level
• A pragmatic, risk based approach to data protection

Relevant certifications (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM, BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection) are desirable, but not essential.
